National Championships at the Royal Cork Yacht Club, September 18th - 20th

Eleven Royal St George SB3s travelled to Royal Cork Yacht Club for the National Championships over 3 days, September 18th - 20th 2009. Congratulations to the three RSGYC boats who made it into the Top Ten!
The RSGYC were triumphant with three boats in the Top Ten. Sean Craig was 2nd overall with crew Alan Green and Stephen Boyle, just missing out to FD Olympian Peter Kennedy who sailed superbly but nearly slipped up after a black flag in the last race. As it turned out, the other contenders could not exploit this opportunity and had poorish last races, after a big shift on the first run. The Geoge's John O'Driscoll came 9th with Owen Laverty and Joe Hughes crewing, while clubmate Andrew Algeo was 10th overall with Steph Bourke and Kirstie Smeaton. A high total turnout of 47 boats enjoyed very tight racing out beyond Roche's Point in light to medium conditions.
The final SB3 regional event will be held in the Midlands at the George's "home-from-home", Lough Derg Yacht Club, on Oct 17/18, the weekend after the Dragons go there. We'd expect another big turnout of George boats.
