Supper & Talk: Chilling Out in Arctic Waters
17 February
Naomi Elliott will share her favourite photos from her sailing and kayaking trip to the forbidding coast of east Greenland.
This trip started aboard the S/V AURORA, a 60 foot cutter rigged sloop with Icelandic skipper and adventurer, Sigurdur Jonsson. The S/V Aurora was originally designed for the Clipper Round the World race and has been raced around the world four times. We set out from the northwestern tip of Iceland, across the Denmark Strait, zigzaging through the pack ice and icebergs hidden in the sea fog to arrive at Kangerdlussuaq Fjord on the east coast of Greenland. Here we unloaded the kayaks, stocked up with food and camping gear, and set out to explore the fjord with tent and paddle in hand. Breaks from kayaking to go ashore on foot for a further investigation of the arctic landscape and overnight camping where the only visitors were arctic foxes and, fortunately, not polar bears.
7pm. Two Course Supper & Talk, €21.
