Royal St George Yacht Club

The Royal St George Yacht Club was founded in 1838 and is one of the oldest yacht clubs in the world. The first Commodore was the Prince of Wales and it long enjoyed Royal patronage. Even now it keeps the Royal title, while living in harmony with the Republic.  The Clubhouse, built in 1842, is a classic example of 19th century architecture, principally designed by John Skipton Mulvany and later George Papworth. The dining room seats 110 persons for full dinner.  There are formal and informal bars, a specialist library and extensive changing room facilities. There are specific areas for the junior sailors, who are so important to our future development, and an extensive forecourt and balcony to enjoy the outside atmosphere.

On the water we have a sheltered inner harbour and a pontoon area that currently hold about 50 boats but which we hope to have extended to hold 100 boats for the Squibs event.  Three cranes provide lifting facilities and an adjoining pier can store trailers during events.

From the mountains to the sea, Dun Laoghaire really is a town for all seasons. For many visitors, their first contact with Ireland is the beautiful coastline as they enter Dun Laoghaire, with its spectacular man-made harbour, richness of historic Yacht Clubs and beautiful town.

Within the harbour there are 4 magnificiant Waterfront Yacht Clubs and a state 5 Gold Anchor 820 berth marina. Dublin Bay has played host to many World and European Sailing Championships and more recently is the venue for the Volvo Dun Laoghaire Regatta.
