Luka Flanagan gives his report from a great week in Baltimore
Baltimore: A review
When we got to Baltimore, I felt a huge rush of excitement. This was my second Baltimore training week and I was out of Pre-Regatta and into Regatta Fleet .Our group’s instructor was Conor Hopkins. He was very good. We stayed in Glenan’s sailing school in our campervan with two other campervans from The George.
The first day there was too much wind so we did theory for the first hour and then went out to practice beating. Second day dawned and we were shown how to improve our tacking by another instructor called Emma. We went out and did upwind exercises and tacking on the whistle. On Wednesday afternoon, the Main fleet struck gold going out in high winds but the Regatta fleet were only allowed to go out on ribs and watch them race. On Thursday, we got to sail all day in great winds and I had a total wipeout but I survived and I even won an award for it! Friday came and we were all looking forward to it. We were going out with the whole Regatta Fleet to do a triangle course race. It went well. I came in different places: 6th, 5th, 4th, and 3rd! I can’t wait for next year and the main fleet.
