SUMMARY:VHF Certificate Course & Exam
DESCRIPTION:VHF Radio Course   \n \nThe RSGYC in partnership with Sea- Craft will be running a VHF Radio course on  the evening of November 11th @ 6.00pm and all day November 12th starting at 9.00am.  \nA Marine VHF radio is a vital piece of safety equipment aboard a boat. \nThe  Marine Radio Short Range Certificate (SRC) is the minimum qualification required to operate marine VHF radio equipment on a vessel. This includes both fixed and handheld equipment with and without Digital Selective Calling (DSC). It is obtained by successfully completing and SRC exam conducted at a Recognised Training Centre. \nMost candidates are required to complete an  SRC course prior to taking the exam\, therefore the majority of exams take place after marine radio SRC courses.  \nThis SRC course is classroom based. There is no age limit for taking the SRC course although exam candidates must be 16 years old on the day of the exam. \nCourse subjects include: \n\nroutine operation of marine VHF radio including Digital Selective Calling\nthe correct VHF channels (frequencies) to be used for each type of communication\ndistress\, emergency and medical assistance procedures\nship to shore communication\npractical use of Marine VHF DSC radios\nGlobal Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS)\nEmergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB)\nSearch and Rescue Transponders (SART)\n\nThe exam\nThe exam is a combination of a written theory test and practical assessment in the use of Marine VHF DSC radios. Candidates must be 16 years or older on the day of the exam.  \nCost:\n€225\, Includes course\, exam and the Internationally recognised operators certificate. DESCRIPTION:The series begins as usual on the first Sunday of November (the 4th)-– seven races\, ending with prize giving in the RIYC on Sunday 17th December. Entry fee is €70.00 and includes temporary membership of Dublin Bay S.C and the Royal Irish Y.C \nA series of SEVEN races to be held on Sunday mornings and one Sunday afternoon – organised by Dublin Bay Sailing Club. Racing under modified ECHO. Cruisers\, cruising boats\, one-designs and boats that do not normally race are very welcome. \nFirst gun 10.10 hrs. ( Sunday 11th November – 14.10 hrs.)\nEntry fee €70.00 – includes temporary membership of Dublin Bay S.C. and Royal Irish Y.C. \nEntry forms in the waterfront clubs or enter online at www.dbsc.org\nContact Fintan Cairns – Tel.: 087 243 9208 \nSailing instructions will be available on Sunday 4th November and will be emailed to entrants beforehand.\nAfter sailing\, food will be available to competitors in the Royal Irish Y.C. \nEntries to Donal P.
