Interactive Session on the Racing Rules of Sailing with Michael Tyrrell

Think you know the Racing Rules of Sailing? Many of us feel confident… until the protests start! To help us all get race‑ready for the coming season, we are delighted to welcome International Race Officer, Michael Tyrrell to the Royal St. George Yacht Club on March 5th for an interactive and enlightening session on the RRS.

Michael was appointed as an International Race Officer by World Sailing in 2024 and is a regular Race Officer on Dublin Bay, especially during major regattas. He’s well known around the course — often spotted aboard the committee boat wearing his distinctive wide‑brimmed hat.

This session will be engaging, practical, and valuable for sailors of all classes. Whether you sail dinghies, keelboats, or foilers, the Racing Rules of Sailing apply every time you line up on a start. This is a great opportunity to improve your understanding of one of the more opaque and often‑debated areas of our sport.

We would like to encourage questions from the floor and we have set up a JotForm (here) so that you can post your questions.
