Safeguarding our Seas and Shores – A Conversation

Safeguarding our Seas and Shores

Join us at The Royal Marine Hotel and cut through the jargon to reveal what’s really happening in our nearshore waters and why it matters.

What’s really happening just off our coast – and is it all OK? This engaging and accessible evening explores how powerful natural forces and human activity are already reshaping our nearshore waters, often without public awareness. Through clear, jargon-free talks, two expert speakers will explain how energy, sand, and seabed materials move in shallow seas, influencing erosion, flooding, and long-term coastal change. The event will also shed light on major offshore wind projects planned close to Dublin’s shoreline and why their scale and implications remain little known. This is not a technical seminar, but a chance to hear real-world insights from specialists with decades of practical experience. Whether you are curious, concerned or simply love the coast, you’ll leave with a clearer understanding of what’s happening beyond the shoreline and why it matters.

Speakers:

Professor Iris Möller, Chair, Department of Geography, Trinity College Dublin, Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, Fellow of the British Society of Geomorphology.

Mr Norman Fullam, Maritime Safety and Environmental Protection Specialist.
