One Wild Ride – Round Ireland Solo Challenge

One Wild Ride POSTER

Single-handed charity circumnavigation of Ireland in a Laser dinghy.

Please find attached details of ‘One Wild Ride’, a unique sailing challenge beginning 14 May that will see Gary Sargent, a sailor from Dublin, attempt to sail a Laser dinghy around Ireland, starting and finishing in Schull, Co. Cork.

Gary will sail approximately 50-80 km’s each outing, spending up to eight hours each day in the boat on the 1500 km round trip. It’s a huge physical and mental challenge with cold and wet weather, challenging seas and difficult currents all in the mix.

The circumnavigation, which has support from the ISA among others, is being undertaken in aid of ChildVision, the only school in Ireland for the education and training of blind and visually impaired children. The challenge is also being used to showcase sailing as a sport, providing sailors, sailing clubs and new recruits a platform through which they can enjoy sailing and connect around a common cause.

Your help will be vital in that regard so we’re appealing to sailing and boating clubs around the country to support the challenge in a number of simple ways, where practical:

• Provide local assistance to Gary and his team as they pass your location. This could include additional rescue cover, food or accommodation.
• Support the fundraising effort by mobilising others to participate.
• Promote the challenge using the materials provided and by connecting with the challenge via social media.

Further details of each are provided on the attachment above.

We firmly believe this challenge will be a lot of fun for everyone involved and a unique way to celebrate our love of sailing and boating. Anything you can do to help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your support in advance. For more information on the challenge visit at www.onewildride.ie or email at info@onewildride.ie

Sincerely,
Gary Sargent & the One Wild Ride Support Team
